The Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) is the points based system that is used to review and score a candidate profile in order to rank them in the Express Entry pool.

The CRS ranks applicants who hope to migrate to Canada and who are qualified under one of the following three federal economic immigration programs; the Skilled Worker Program, the Skilled Trades Program and the Canadian Experience Class. Once a candidate is deemed eligible, they will be entered into the Express Entry group and rated alongside other candidates in the group. There are as many as 1,200 points attainable under the Express Ranking system which is subdivided as follows:

• Up to 100 points are awarded for the candidate’s Skills Transferability, based on a combination of certain Human capital factors.
• Up to 500 points for Core Human Capital Factors, which includes age, degree of education, employment experience and language ability. If the candidate has an accompanying common law partner or spouse, up to 460 points would be awarded based on the core human capital of the primary applicant and up to 40 points designated for their spouse or partner’s core human capital. In addition, up to 80 points will be granted to candidates who have at a minimum of one year of work experience in Canada.
• 600 points are awarded to candidates that either have a Provincial Nomination Certificate from a province in Canada or 50 points or 200 points for a qualifying offer of pre-arranged employment from a Canadian employer who obtain a Positive Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA) or an exempt LMIA qualifying job offer.

2. Level of Education: Up to 150 points are awarded for the level of education.
3. First Language Ability: Up to 136 points are awarded for language ability in either French or English and 34 points are awarded for respectively speaking, listening, reading and writing in the language.
4. Additional points can be obtained based on your post-secondary education in Canada, Arranged employment and PNP Nomination.
5. Second Language abilities can garner 24 points, awarded for the candidate’s ability in either French or English, with six points given for respectively speaking, listening, reading and writing in the language.
6. Canadian Work Experience: Up to 80 points will be awarded based on the number of years a candidate has been gainfully employed in a skilled profession in Canada.

Points for Core Human Capital with an Accompanying Common Law Partner or Spouse Details:

1. Age: Up to 100 points will be awarded based on the candidate’s age, with those between the ages of 20 to 29 being awarded the full amount. Candidates that are younger than 18 and over 44 will not be awarded points
2. Level of Education: Up to 140 points will be awarded based on the education level of the primary candidate, with an additional 10 points made available to the spouse or common law partner based on their education level.
3. First Language Ability: Up to 128 points are awarded for the principal applicant’s first language ability in English or French, along with 32 points for respectively speaking, listening, reading and writing. As much as 20 points will be awarded based on the spouse or common law partner’s capability in English or French languages, along with 5 points awarded for respectively speaking, listening, reading and writing in the languag.
4. Second Language Abilities: When it comes to second language ability, up to 22 points will be awarded for ability in either converse in English or French, with 6 points awarded for respectively speaking, listening, reading and writing in the language.
5. Canadian Work Experience: Up to 70 points will be awarded for the period of time the primary applicant has worked in a skilled profession in Canada, along with 10 extra points the period of time the accompanying spouse or common law partner has also worked in a skilled profession in Canada.
